Shubman Gill had a memorable Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In his 50th ODI at his IPL home ground the Narendra Modi Stadium, the vice-captain broke countless records with his 102-ball 112, which also put India in a strong position to whitewash England in the three-match series.

It was one of his best knocks in the format. England bowlers got some swing and seam in the powerplay and swiftly removed his partner, Rohit Sharma but Gill took his time against the new ball.

He slowly increased the tempo, before eventually going into cruise mode with boundaries in every over. On his 95th ball, he nicely flicked a leg-sided length ball from pacer Mark Wood to the mid-wicket fence to reach his seventh ODI century. He celebrated it with a bow to the applause of the crowd.

Below is the list of records he broke and achieved on the way to his hundred:

Fastest to 2500 runs

This is the first big record Gill achieved on Wednesday, before even reaching his century. He crossed 2500 ODI runs in the innings, becoming the fastest to the milestone in the format’s history. He beat South African great Hashim Amla’s record of 51 innings and also bettered Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq (52) innings.

First Indian to score a century in his 50th ODI

All the records were extra special because Gill was celebrating his half-century in ODI matches. Before Wednesday, 65 men and 20 women had played at least 50 ODIs for India but none of them had scored a century in the milestone game. With his 112, Gill also became the first Indian to do so.

First Indian with a century across formats at the same ground

This was Gill’s third international century at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Previously, he hit a 128 against Australia in a Test in March 2023 and an unbeaten 126 against New Zealand a month before that.

With a first ODI hundred at the ground, he became the first Indian to score a century across formats at the same ground. Overall, he joined four others, Pakistan’s Babar Azam (Karachi), South Africa’s Faf du Plessis (Johannesburg), Australia’s David Warner (Adelaide) and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (Centurion) for the record.

The Gujarat Titans skipper also has three tons at this ground in the IPL.

Least innings to score 7 ODI centuries

Gill also became the fastest Indian to make seven ODI centuries. He beat Shikhar Dhawan’s record of 54 innings and also comfortably went past Virat Kohli (63 innings).
