West Indies legend Andy Roberts has offered some suggestions to Virat Kohli ahead of the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Roberts reckons the veteran Indian batter should play more red-ball cricket to regain his form. Kohli has been quite inconsistent for a long time. He struck a brilliant century in the series opener against Australia in Perth but failed miserably in the second match. Kohli managed only 18 runs across the two innings in Adelaide as India lost the pink-ball Test by ten wickets. He has struggled a lot in Indian conditions as well in recent times.

Before the Australia tour, India hosted New Zealand in a three-match Test series where Kohli could have registered 93 runs in six innings. Andy Roberts shared his thoughts on Kohli’s prolonged lean patch during a recent interaction with Mid-Day.

When asked if the Indian star would bounce back in the upcoming third Test at The Gabba, Roberts said, “I don’t know if there will be a revival after the Adelaide defeat, but get your batting right. One of your best batsmen of all time has been struggling for the last five years. He needs to be focused on the longer version of the game.”

“You will get runs and score heavily in Test cricket only when you are fully focused on the longer form. The standard of Test cricket is not the same. The top batsmen look as if they are struggling.” the legendary fast bowler added.

Regarded as the successor of the great Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli has been struggling with form since January 2020. During his period, the right-hander has accumulated just 1961 runs in 64 innings across all three formats at a batting average of below 33. He has registered three centuries and nine fifties.

The century in Perth was Kohli’s 81st in international cricket. It was also his first Test hundred after a long hiatus of 16 years. He will be keen to showcase his A-game at The Gabba where Team India will seek redemption after their heartbreaking defeat in Adelaide. The third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy will begin on December 14.
