Glenn Phillips took a superb catch with his one hand by diving to his right on Sunday (March 2) to spoil Virat Kohli’s memorable match. Kohli, who is playing his 300th ODI for India on Sunday against New Zealand in Dubai, could only manage to score 11 runs from 14 balls with the help of two fours. He was caught by Phillips on the fourth ball of the seventh over of India’s innings bowled by Matt Henry.

Indian team management and fans had high hopes from Kohli on Sunday, but the former India captain failed to do much with the bat. He looked in great touch during his short stay at the crease, but a moment of brilliance on the field from Phillips stunned everyone.

Kohli was the third Indian batter to get out on Sunday. Before him, Henry trapped Shubman Gill (2) in front of the wickets on the fifth ball of the third over of the match, and on the first ball of the sixth over, Kyle Jamieson dismissed Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit, who was on the cusp of becoming the seventh Indian batter to score 1000 runs in ODIs against New Zealand, was caught by Will Young after making 15 runs from 17 balls.

During his stay at the crease, Rohit hammered 1 four and 1 six.

Santner invites India to bat

In the ongoing match, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and invited India to bat first. The Kiwis have made one change to the playing XI for the Group A match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Daryl Mitchell, who scored two centuries against India in the ODI World Cup 2023, replaced Devon Conway in the side. Indian team management has also made one change for the match.

Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy is playing in the last Group A match in place of Harshit Rana. Rana has been rested for the match.
