Gujarat Giants will aim for their first win of the third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) when they take on UP Warriorz on Sunday (February 16).
In their season opener, Gujarat Giants were up against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and lost as high-scoring affair.
Gujarat Giants exhibited brilliant batting and posted a mammoth total of 201/5.
Gujarat Giants skipper Ashleigh Gardner led from the front and produced a marvellous knock of 79 not out off 37 balls. But they were let down by ordinary bowling and fielding. Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost four wickets and scored the winning runs with nine balls to spare. Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh scored a half-century each to earn a memorable win for RCB.
Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma will lead the UP Warriorz during the season.
Deepti had won the MVP award in the second season where she featured in 17 games for the UP Warriorz, scoring 385 runs and picking up 19 wickets.
Deepti replaced Alyssa Healy as the captain who opted out of the third edition of the WPL due to a stress injury to her right foot. West Indies all-rounder Chinelle Henry was announced as an injury replacement for Healy.
