Gujarat’s wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel created history on Wednesday (November 27) by becoming the fastest Indian and second fastest batter overall in the world to score a century in T20 cricket. The 26-year-old right-handed batter needed just 28 balls to complete his first century in T20s. He achieved the feat during Gujarat’s Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy match against Tripura in Indore.

He remained unbeaten on 113 runs from 35 balls and helped his side chase down the target of 156 runs in just 10.2 overs. During his stay at the crease, he hammered 7 fours and 12 sixes.

Patel broke Rishabh Pant’s record of fastest century by an Indian batter in T20s. Pant, who was signed for Rs 27 crore by Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 mega auction on Sunday (November 24), crossed the 100-run mark for Delhi in just 32 balls against Himachal Pradesh during the SMAT match played in Delhi on January 14, 2018.

Urvil, who has 988 runs to his name in 44 T20 matches played so far, was part of the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023, but he didn’t get a chance to play any matches for the Ahmedabad-based franchise.
