India all-rounder Axar Patel celebrates his 31st birthday today, January 20. In the last decade, the Gujarat-born cricketer has established himself as one of the more dependable all-rounders in India’s senior squad. The left-hander played a key role in India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign in 2024 with an important knock in the finals. Axar also won the Asia Cup crown twice in an Indian shirt in 2018 and 2023. 11/70 vs England, 2021
Axar Patel was a different beast during the 2021 England’s Tour of India. He surprised the English batters in the third Test of the tour in Ahmedabad with his spin and bagged six wickets in his first bowling spell. He dismantled the visiting side’s top order in his second display, dismissing the likes of Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. Axar finished his second spell with five scalps, helping India win the game by 10 wickets.
84 vs Australia, 2023
Axar Patel scored his highest Test knock against Australia in Nagpur. During the 2023 series at home. He smashed 84 runs in 174 deliveries, hitting 10 boundaries and one six during his side’s first innings. He was eventually dismissed by Pat Cummins. Axar’s knock helped India to win the fixture by an innings and 132 runs.
3/9 vs New Zealand, 2021
Axar Patel’s heroics with the ball helped India register a thumping 73-run victory against New Zealand in the final T20i of the three-match 2021 series. Axar dismissed the likes of Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman and Glenn Philipps while giving away just nine runs. Axar finished with three wickets in his 3-over flow.
4/21 vs Gujarat Lions, IPL 2016
Nearly nine years ago, Axar Patel showcased one of his best bowling spells in the IPL against Gujarat Lions. The Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) all-rounder toppled his opponents with a hattrick, his first in T20 cricket, while defending 154 runs. Axar finished the game with four wickets, sealing a comfortable 23-run win for his side. He even won the Player of the Match award for his heroics.
66 vs Gujarat Giants, IPL 2024
Axar Patel produced his highest IPL score in the 2024 edition of the franchise tournament. Representing the Delhi Capitals, the all-rounder smashed 66 runs off 43 balls against Gujarat Giants. He smashed five boundaries and four sixes to help his side put up 224 runs on the board. Axar’s knock proved decisive as the Delhi Capitals narrowly edged out the former IPL winners, winning by four runs.
