SHREYAS IYER BIRTHDAY: One of the finest batters to represent India in recent times, Shreyas Iyer celebrates his 30th birthday today (December 6). Representing Mumbai in first-class cricket, Iyer has more than 6,000 runs under his belt. In international cricket, he has represented India in 127 matches across all three formats of the game, so far. Apart from his batting, Iyer’s leadership skills are also quite impressive.
In 2024, Iyer led the Kolkata Knight Riders to Indian Premier League (IPL) triumph.
As Iyer celebrates his birthday today, we take a look at his cricketing journey so far. After putting up some impressive shows early in his career, Shreyas Iyer was selected for India’s Under-19 World Cup squad for 2014. He scored consecutive half-centuries in the 2014 World Cup playoffs to guide India to a fifth-place finish.
Iyer came to the limelight having been roped in by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) at the 2015 IPL auction for Rs 2.6 crore.
The move paid off as Shreyas Iyer scored 439 runs in the IPL 2015 season and bagged the IPL Emerging Player of the Year award.
Led Delhi Capitals And Kolkata Knight Riders In IPL
Iyer proved his mettle in the domestic T20 franchise league and became a captain of two franchises – Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Having played 115 matches so far in the competition, Iyer has scored 3127 runs at a strike rate of 127.48.

Iyer has 21 half-centuries under his belt in the IPL. In IPL 2024, Iyer proved his leadership mettle and led the Kolkata Knight Riders to championship glory.
Shreyas Iyer’s International Cricket Career
In international cricket, Shreyas Iyer debuted in a T20I match against New Zealand in November 2017. His ODI debut came next month against Sri Lanka.
Iyer scored his first century for India in an ODI match, in 2020 against New Zealand in Hamilton. The middle-order batter has represented India in 62 ODIs and 51 T20Is. In this period, Iyer has scored five centuries and 26 half-centuries.
Shreyas Iyer earned his Test debut in November 2021 against New Zealand. So far, he has featured in 14 Test matches with an average of 36.86. He has hit one century and five half-centuries in Test cricket so far.
