Narendra Modi welcomed the Indian women’s cricket team, ICC Women’s World Cup winners. Harmanpreet Kaur shared her story of keeping the match ball and hopes for more such meetings.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, welcomed the Indian women’s cricket team, victors of the ICC Women’s World Cup, at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. The video of their meeting was shared on social media on Thursday.
PM Modi asked Harmanpreet Kaur why she pocketed the match ball in her pocket.
“Harman, after winning, you kept the ball in your pocket,” PM Modi asked.
“I still have it,” Harmanpreet replied.
Narendra Modi asked the Indian captain: “What was the reason? Did someone tell you? What happened?”
She replied: “No, sir. It was God’s plan. It was not like I will get the last ball. But, I got that ball. After so many years of hard work, after so many years of waiting, now I have it. I still have it in my bag.”
Modi reminisced about Suryakumar Yadav’s catch in the 2024 T20 World Cup final while speaking with Amanjot Kaur, whose catch of South Africa’s skipper Laura Wolvaardt determined the outcome of the final.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur recalled meeting the Prime Minister in 2017 after a close defeat to England in the finals at Lord’s, where they met him without the trophy. Now, having met him with the trophy, they hope to meet him more often.
“I still remember when we met you in 2017. At that time, we did not come with a trophy. But it is a matter of great honour for us that this time, for something we have been working so hard for so many years, we have brought the trophy here,” skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said in the video of the interaction shared by the PM on Thursday.
“Our aim is that we meet you again and again in the future and take photos with you and your team again and again.”
