Vidarbha spinner Harsh Dubey entered his name in the history books on Saturday, February 28, by breaking the all-time record of taking most wickets in a Ranji Trophy season. The 22-year-old slow left-arm orthodox spinner achieved the feat during the ongoing final match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season between Vidarbha and Kerala in Nagpur. He broke Bihar spinner Ashutosh Aman’s all-time record by trapping Kerala’s No. 10 batter MD Nidheesh in front of the wickets on the last ball of the 122nd over of Kerala’s first innings.

Nidheesh’s wicket was Dubey’s 69th dismissal of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. During the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season, Aman dismissed 68 batters in eight matches for Bihar. Dubey, on the other hand, has played 10 matches so far for Vidarbha.

In the list of bowlers with the most wickets in one edition of the Ranji Trophy, Dubey and Aman are followed by Jaydev Unadkat, who finished with 67 wickets in 10 matches of the 2019-20 season for Saurashtra, and Bishan Singh Bedi of Delhi (64 wickets in the 1974-75 season).

Dubey finished the first innings of the ongoing Ranji Trophy final match with 3 wickets in 44 overs for 88 runs. Thanks to his 3/88, Vidarbha managed to bowl Kerala out for 342 runs on Friday and take a crucial first innings lead of 37 runs.

If Kerala fail to bowl out the Akshay Wadkar-led side in the second innings and then chase down the target set by them, Vidarbha will lift the Ranji Trophy title for the third time due to the first innings lead.

For Kerala, captain Sachin Baby top-scored in the first innings. The left-handed batter scored 98 runs from 235 balls with the help of 10 fours. He was sent back to the pavilion by Parth Rekhade on the fifth ball of the 107th over of Kerala’s first innings on Friday.
