In the 40th over, Rana unleashed another bouncer that went on to smash flush on Starc’s helmet as the Aussie looked to duck under it.
The second day of the Perth Test saw a friendly banter between debutant Harshit Rana and Mitchell Starc. Both fast bowlers shared the Kolkata Knight Riders’ dressing room and lifted the IPL trophy together earlier this year. And now when they were up against each other, banters galore at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
After dodging Rana’s bouncer, Starc warned the India pacer saying, “Harshit, I bowl faster than you. I’ve got a long memory.” The 22-year-old Delhi pacer reacted with a big smile on his face before attacking the Aussie with some more short balls.
In the 40th over, Rana unleashed another bouncer that went on to smash flush on Starc’s helmet as the Aussie looked to duck under it. Showcasing sportsmanship, Rana immediately put his arm and checked, in fact, double-checked if Starc was okay.
Rana made his international debut in the ongoing match, receiving his maiden Test cap from Ravichandran Ashwin. On Friday (November 22), the 22-year-old Delhi-based cricketer claimed his first Test wicket by clean bowling Travis Head, shattering his stumps.
Rana struck again on Saturday morning, taking his second wicket by dismissing Nathan Lyon, who was batting at No. 10 for the hosts. Lyon was caught in the slips by KL Rahul.
Bumrah Shines in Perth
Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, leading India in the match, has delivered an impressive performance with the ball. The right-arm fast bowler claimed four wickets on Day 1 and completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Alex Carey with the first ball of his spell on Day 2. With five Australian wickets to his name so far, Bumrah has reached the milestone of 50 wickets in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC). He is the first pacer and the third Indian bowler overall, after R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, to achieve this feat in a single WTC edition.
