The Ranji Trophy 2024-25 quarterfinal clash between Mumbai and Haryana has been moved to Kolkata from Lahli, according to a report. BCCI decided to make the last-minute change due to “unavoidable circumstances”.
As per a report in The Indian Express, the Haryana Cricket Board and Mumbai Cricket Association were informed of the development by the BCCI game development manager Abey Kuruvila via an email.
Citing an MCA source, the daily reported that the contest, originally slated to be played in Lahli, will now be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) “hosting and taking care of all arrangements”.
While there’s no official explanation behind the sudden change, the report adds that weather could be a concern. The Jammu and Kashmir vs Kerala quarterfinal was also shifted from Srinagar to Pune due to “potential weather concerns”.
“We have a good infrastructure to host the game of cricket, and I’m sure it will be a great playing experience for both teams under these conditions,” Maharashtra Cricket Association president Rohit Pawar had said in a statement on Sunday.
A star-studded Mumbai featuring India Test players including Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur were stunned by Jammu and Kashmir at home after the ongoing Ranji Trophy resumed last month.
Mumbai then crushed Meghalaya to register an innings victory and clinch a bonus point that paved the way for their passage into the last-eight.
With Rohit, Jaiswal and Iyer resuming international duties, Mumbai will have no dearth of star power as Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube have been added to their squad for the quarterfinal.
On the other hand, Haryana qualified after registering a big 284-run win over Bengal before their final group fixture against Karnataka ended in a draw.
The contest starts from February 8.
