Rivals on the field, friends off it. This was highlighted when Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel and Karun Nair shared a light-hearted moment with LSG’s Shardul Thakur, ahead of their IPL 2025 clash on Tuesday.

In what would be a wholesome encounter for all three, Axar crossed paths with Thakur first during practice at the Ekana Stadium, before their encounter.

In a video shared by the Delhi Capitals on X, Axar is seen starting off the proceedings, hilariously placing down all his gear in reverence, as ‘Lord’ Thakur neared him.

“For you, I have to keep everything down first and then meet you properly, The Lord,” Axar joked as he embraced Shardul wholeheartedly.

Thakur hit back with a funny jab of his own, reeling in DC’s Karun Nair into the conversation, stating, “It’s not like I’m Karun Nair, am I? Karun Nair’s scene is different.”

Thakur’s jovial jibe at Nair continued, as he exclaimed in awe, witnessing the DC batter sharing his nets during practice.

“Are you sharing your nets with someone? You should be batting alone,” LSG’s Thakur joked.

“Take what you get, have you heard about that saying?” Nair jibed back as he walked away to practice.

Well, DC would have the final laugh, as the Capitals annihilated the Lucknow Super Giants in a dominant 8-wicket win last night.

The win was powered by a near-perfect performance from their pace unit, aided by inexplicable tactics from rival captain Rishabh Pant, which restricted the batting-first LSG to a below-par 159/6 after being 87/1 at the halfway mark.

Young opener Abhishek Porel (51 off 36) set the tone before KL Rahul (57 not out off 42) and Axar Patel (34 not out off 20) saw DC home with 13 balls to spare, sealing their sixth win in eight games.

The game was yet another statement win for Rahul, whose past with the LSG runs deep.

The Indian wicketkeeper-batter led LSG from the team’s debut season in 2022 until 2024, helping the side make the playoff stages in the first two campaigns before finishing seventh last year.

Rahul had an infamous fallout with Goenka last year when LSG endured a tough season, finishing seventh on the points table and thus not qualifying for the IPL playoffs for the first time in three years.

Afterwards, Rahul was released by LSG after the franchise failed to qualify last season, and at the IPL mega auction, he was signed by DC.

Since his departure to DC, it seems as if he has found greener pastures, as Rahul has been in fine form for the Delhi side this IPL season. He has scored 323 runs in seven matches, boasting an average of 64.60 at a strike rate of 153.81.
