Rishabh Pant was at it again from behind the stumps with a hilarious response to Washington Sundar.
Rishabh Pant as always gives some funny moments for the fans when behind the stumps. The Indian wicketkeeper had a hilarious exchange with Washington Sundar during the opening day of the first Test against New Zealand.
During the 78th over of the first innings against the Kiwis, in-form Sundar was bowling against Ajaz Patel. During the over, Pant had suggested from behind the stumps to possibly bowl a bit more fuller.
“Washi aage daal sakte hai, you can bowl little fuller. Thoda baahar daal sakta hai,” said Pant.
But the plan backfired for the moment as Patel ended up smashing a boundary towards the long-on region. This then prompted Pant to cheekily defend himself claiming that he did not know that the batter could speak Hindi.
Yaar mereko kya pata issey Hindi aati hai,” Pant commented after the boundary.
However, Sundar managed to have the final laugh as he got the wicket of Patel by the end of the same over. A flatter delivery which spun a bit got the better of the Kiwi batter who looked to play a defensive shot which got the inside edge and crashed onto the stumps to claim his sixth wicket of the day.
He managed to add one more to his tally with Mitchell Santner as he ended New Zealand’s batting innings at 259 runs. Sundar also became the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune.
The Indian batting unit would have to step up to the challenge of playing in spin-friendly conditions as they look to get going with the bat. The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply, thanks to a peach of a delivery by Tim Southee.
Nonetheless, the pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill managed to see out the rest of the day’s play with 16 runs on the board. Now the Indian batters will hope that they can get a big partnership going tomorrow and hopefully take a first-innings lead to put them in contention of a series-levelling win.
