Star Indian batter and former captain Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten century in the second innings of the first Test against Australia, which was played from November 22 to 25 in Perth. There were high expectations from Kohli in the second Test as well, which got underway at Adelaide Oval on Friday (December 6), but the 36-year-old right-handed batter failed to impress with his batting in the first inning and got out after scoring 7 runs from eight balls. After India could only manage to score 180 runs in the first innings of the pink-ball Test, the Aussies came out to bat during the third session of opening day’s play, and during the last hour of the day’s play, Kohli was caught sledging Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne.

In a video going viral on the internet, Kohli can be seen cheering Jasprit Bumrah while taking a dig at Labuschagne. After Bumrah bowled an unplayable delivery, Kohli said, “He’s got no clue! He’s got no clue, Jass!”

Here’s a look:

Bumrah, who was celebrating his 31st birthday on Friday (December 6), was the only Indian bowler to take a wicket on Day 1. He accounted for the dismissal of Usman Khawaja, who was caught at the slips by Indian captain Rohit Sharma after making 13 runs from 35 balls. By getting rid of Khawaja, Bumrah completed 50 Test wickets in 2024, and it helped him become the third Indian pacer after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan to dismiss at least 50 Test batters in a calendar year.

During his playing days, Kapil twice picked up more than 50 wickets in a calendar year. In 1979, he played 17 Tests for India and got rid of 74 batters, and then in 1983 he improved his tally by dismissing 75 batters in 18 Tests. Zaheer, who finished his Test career with 311 wickets, picked up 51 Test wickets for India in 2002. Bumrah, who made his Test debut for India in 2018 against South Africa and picked up Ab de Villiers as his first Test wicket, has 50 wickets to his name in 11 Tests played so far in 2024.

With India set to play two more Tests in 2024, Bumrah will have a total of six innings to try and break Kapil’s record of taking the most Test wickets for India in a calendar year.
