The dad called Virat Kohli the ‘best batsman in the world’ as the son watched him from a vantage point over the MCG nets.
A heart-warming video of an Australian father introducing his son to Virat Kohli for the first time is going viral on social media. The dad can be heard describing Kohli as the ‘best batsman in the whole world’ as his son watches the Indian legend bat in the nets.
The video is from India’s net sessions at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), ahead of the Boxing Day Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia. Kohli was batting in the net farthest from the public vantage point over it, only practicing leaving the balls outside off, but it became a moment to remember for a father-son duo.
“Alright, so, Jamie, look over there, you see that fourth batsman right at the end? His name is Virat Kohli. He’s the best batsman in the whole world,” the dad says in the video.

Kohli has always been the biggest name for media and local fans whenever India have traveled Down Under, especially for the Test series. Ahead of this BGT, he was the face of most podcasts, magazines, newspapers, TV advertisements and billboards. Kohli is often described as the ‘most Australian non-Australian cricketer’ for his tenacity and confidence.
This is most likely the last Test tour of Australia for the Indian superstar, who hit his first Test century in this country in 2012 and began his Test captaincy tenure here, too, in 2014. On the field, it has been a mixed bag for Kohli — he hit an unbeaten century in the second innings of the first Test in Perth, which India won, but has failed in the four other innings.
India will hope he can draw inspiration from his record at the MCG to get back to form. He has scored 316 runs in three matches here at an average of 52.67. He has three fifty-plus scores and a duck in the last four innings at the venue, including a 169 (272) in 2014.
India have come to MCG with the series tied at 1-1 and needing just one win in the next two games to retain the trophy.
