Rajasthan Royals suffered a shocking defeat by 2 runs against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 match played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday (April 19). In reply to the 181-run target set by the Rishabh Pant-led side, the Men in Pink could only manage to score 178 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. The defeat in Jaipur was RR’s fourth loss in a row and overall sixth defeat in eight IPL 2025 matches played so far.
With 4 points and net run rate of -0.633, RR sit at the No. 8 position in the IPL 2025 points table. The defeat against LSG has now put RR’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs in danger.
IPL 2025 points table after the conclusion of RR vs LSG match in Jaipur on April 19, 2025
Position | Team | Matches | Wins | Losses | NR | Points | NRR |
1. | Gujarat Titans | 7 | 5 | 2 | – | 10 | 0.984 |
2. | Delhi Capitals | 7 | 5 | 2 | – | 10 | 0.589 |
3. | Punjab Kings | 7 | 5 | 2 | – | 10 | 0.308 |
4. | Lucknow Super Giants | 8 | 5 | 3 | – | 10 | 0.088 |
5. | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 7 | 4 | 3 | – | 8 | 0.446 |
6. | Kolkata Knight Riders | 7 | 3 | 4 | – | 6 | 0.547 |
7. | Mumbai Indians | 7 | 3 | 4 | – | 6 | 0.239 |
8. | Rajasthan Royals | 8 | 2 | 6 | – | 4 | -0.633 |
9. | Sunrisers Hyderabad | 7 | 2 | 5 | – | 4 | -1.217 |
10. | Chennai Super Kings | 7 | 2 | 5 | – | 4 | -1.276 |
Royals will have to win all of their remaining six IPL 2025 matches to stand a chance of qualification. If they lose any match now, they will not be able to secure a place in the top four.
Six wins in the remaining six matches will also not guarantee RR a place in the playoffs because four teams – Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and LSG – have already secured 10 points and have at least six matches more to play, but they will remain in the contention.
For RR to qualify for playoffs with 14 points, they have to make sure that not more than three teams finish with more than 14 points and their net run rate at the end of league stage matches remains better than the others.
If that doesn’t happen, then RR will miss out on a place in the top four for the second time in three seasons.
RR’s upcoming matches
RR will face RCB in their ninth league match on Thursday (April 24) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and then host table-toppers Gujarat Titans at home on Monday (April 28). RR’s last four matches are scheduled against Mumbai Indians in Jaipur on May 1, Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on May 4, Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 12 and Punjab Kings at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 16.
