Tilak Varma scored his maiden century for India on Wednesday (November 13) during the third T20I of the ongoing four-match series played at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The 22-year-old left-handed batter came out to bat at No. 3, and during his stay at the crease, he faced 56 balls and, with the help of 8 fours and 7 sixes, scored 107 runs. He became the second youngest batter to score a century in the shortest format of the game for Men in Blue, and for his super show with the bat, he won the Player of the Match award as well.
A day after India won the third T20I by 11 runs to take 2-1 lead in the series, BCCI took to its social media handles to share a video of Tilak expressing his happiness over scoring his maiden T20I century.
According to him, he is very happy to score a century in Centurion.
“I scored 100 in the centurion today. I am very, very happy. I had a dream that in Centurion, a boy with long hair will score a century,” Tilak said in the video.
The left-handed batter said people were saying that it will be difficult for him to make a comeback after missing the last few series due to injuries.
“I recently got injured and couldn’t play in some series. People were saying that it will be difficult for me to make a comeback in the Indian team because I have missed 2-3 series. I believe in God. I will get a chance at the right time, and I will score runs at the right time. That’s why I looked at God after the 100.”
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was also full of praise for Tilak for his batting performances and said that Tilak came to him after the end of the second T20I and asked him if he could get a fixed spot in the playing XI, and he expressed his desire to bat at No. 3.
“It’s a big deal to have so much clarity and aggression at such a young age. I still remember he came to me in Gqeberha and said, if possible, please send me at a fixed number. If possible, send me to bat at No. 3. I want to take that responsibility for the team,” he said.
