Gujarat Giants’ English all-rounder Danielle Gibson, on Saturday, March 1, revealed that she used to work as a waitress before becoming a full-time cricketer, even though she didn’t enjoy it.
Gibson worked at a local pub as a waitress to earn money. She earned a Rs 30 lakh contract from the Giants in the WPL 2025 mini-auction.
Gibson has represented England in 22 T20Is. While she is making a decent amount of money by plying her trade in the Women’s Premier League, that wasn’t always the story.
“I worked as a waitress in England at a pub. I didn’t enjoy it,” Gibson said while speaking during a rapid-fire session. Watch the video here:
In the same video, Gibson mentioned that the first time she went to a live cricket game was at Lord’s 18 years ago when she was just six years old. She added that she went to watch her brothers play in the final of a tournament.
Gibson named former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff when asked to name her first cricket hero. She added that her first phone was a Samsung touchscreen device.
“I don’t like cricket (on one ankle). I love it. (on the other ankle),” Gibson said when asked about her first tattoo.
Born in 2001 in Gloucestershire, Gibson made her debut for England in July 2023 in a T20I against Australia in Birmingham. She last featured in a women’s Ashes tour game against Governor-General XI Women in North Sydney last month, where she bowled a good spell of 3-0-14-0.
Besides the Giants, Gibson has played for the Adelaide Strikers and London Spirit as well.
Meanwhile, Ashleigh Gardner led from the front with a blazing 58 off 31 deliveries as bottom-placed Giants snapped their losing streak with a dominant six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Opting to bowl, the Giants put on a disciplined bowling display, with Deandra Dottin (2/31) and Tanuja Kanwar (2/16) restricting Bengaluru to a below-par 125/7.
The Giants took just 17 overs to seal the win against Bengaluru and will next face the UP Warriorz on March 3 in Lucknow.
