Ibrahim Zadran’s scintillating knock against England sees the batter breaking multiple records in Afghanistan’s must-win game in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran lit up a storm in their must-win clash against England in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The opening batter went on to register an individual score of 177 in 146 balls to break several records. The knock came at a crucial juncture in Afghanistan’s maiden campaign at the Champions Trophy. Having lost their opening game, Afghanistan need to win both their games to stand a chance of securing a spot in the semifinal.
Afghanistan were in trouble as they lost three wickets within the first 10 overs including big-name stars like Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah not able to contribute much with the bat. But Zadran stepped up and built partnerships with Hashmatullah Shahidi, Azmatullah Omarzai and a late charge with Mohammed Nabi.
His knock sees Afghanistan break plenty of records. One being the highest individual score in the Champions Trophy which was previously set by Ben Duckett in his knock against Australia earlier in the tournament.

Zadran also surpassed the record for the highest individual score by an Afghanistan batter. He went past his previous best where he scored 162 against Sri Lanka in 2022. It also implies that this Afghanistan’s highest individual score by a batter in ICC’s white-ball events as well.

Zadran certainly stepped up with the bat. Now the onus is on Afghanistan’s bowling unit to ensure that they can defend this score to keep themselves in the hunt for a spot in the semifinal stages of the tournament.
