With cricket set to make its return at the Summer Games with Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, ICC chairman Jay Shah looks determined to make the sport feature at the 2032 Brisbane Games as well. He feels the Olympics will serve as a great platform to boost the growth of the game.

Shah recently reached Australia for a meeting with the Brisbane Games’ organising committee and is is likely to head to The Gabba to watch the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“Very exciting time ahead for Cricket’s involvement in the Olympics movement – a meeting with the Brisbane 2032 organizing committee in Brisbane, Australia today (Thursday, December 12),” Shah wrote on X.

Earlier in August 2021, the International Cricket Council (ICC) formed a special working group which would advocate the idea of pushing cricket for its inclusion in the 2028 and 2032 Summer Olympics. The committee had representatives from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), USA Cricket, and Zimbabwe Cricket.

After going through several discussions, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) gave the green signal for the Los Angeles Games a year ago. The decision was confirmed at the 141st IOC Session.

Shah officially took over the helm of ICC last week with a visit to its headquarters in Dubai. In his first speech as the chairman, he explained why cricket should be part of the Olympic roster and underlined how it would be significant in making the sport popular in every nook and corner of the world.

Team India has also reached Brisbane for the third Test. The 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy is now currently level at one-all. India started the series on a promising note by winning the opener in Perth. Australia turned the tables in the second game in Adelaide with a dominant 10-wicket victory.
