The Australia Women Team’s Kim Garth has been reprimanded for a Level 1 breach of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct during the third ODI of the Women’s Championship series against India, which took place in Perth on Wednesday.
Garth was found guilty of breaching Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel relating to the ‘use of audible obscenity during an international match’.
Garth’s disciplinary record will have one demerit point. This is her first offence in the last two years. The incident took place during India’s batting innings where she used inappropriate language after being hit for a boundary.
She admitted to her offence and also accepted the sanction from the ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Level 1 breaches have a minimum penalty of an official reprimand which can also extend to a penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fees and one or two demerit points.
The 28-year-old did not have an ideal game with the ball as she remained wicketless after giving away 33 runs in the five overs she bowled. But Australia were able to dominate the game as they secured a win by 190 runs thanks to Phoebe Litchfield’s sensational knock of 119 runs from 125 deliveries which included 16 boundaries and one maximum.
Alyssa Healy, who returned to lead the side also chipped in with 82 runs off 85 balls to help the side set a mammoth target of 339 runs. India were all out for just 148 runs in 32.4 overs with Georgia Wareham being the pick of the Indian bowlers with three wickets from 23 runs in 6.4 overs.
Australia went on to dominate the series as they whitewashed India to secure a 3-0 series victory on home soil, which included some dominant performances. India struggled for the most part and seemed to be far from their best form.
Garth who was part of the Women’s Premier League auction ahead of the 2025 season, also went unsold with no bids at her base price of Rs 30 Lakh.
As mentioned by the ICC’s release, when a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned. Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player
