ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Chinelle Henry got hit on her face (X)

Chinelle Henry tried to reverse cup a catch but he ball though went through her fingers and hit her flush on the face.

Chinelle Henry was struck in the face after missing the grab onto a catch during the second semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 between West Indies and New Zealand at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

On the first ball of the 12th over, Deandra Dottin bowled a back-of-a-length delivery on off as Melie Kerr tried to pull it. She did not get the connection right as the ball flew towards deep mid-wicket. Chinelle Henry ran forward and tried to reverse cup it. The ball though went through her fingers and hit her flush on the face.

She seemed to lose the ball in the light as replays showed that the ball hit Henry’s forehead.

WATCH:

Chinelle Henry fell down immidiately in a lot of pain. The physio ran out to have a look as a concussion test was quickly performed.

She did manage ti get back to her feet and walked back to the dressing room with the medical team.

Windies took to social media to post and update:

“During New Zealand’s innings, Chinelle Henry was struck in the face by the ball while attempting a catch. After an initial assessment by our medical team, she was deemed unfit to continue in the match. As per the ICC’s concussion protocols, Chedean Nation came on as a concussion substitute for the remainder of the game. The health and well-being of our players is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor Chinelle’s condition closely. We wish her a speedy recovery.”

As for the match, Spinners Eden Carson and Amelia Kerr continued their incredible run to put New Zealand in the Women’s T20 World Cup final beating West Indies by eight runs.
