Yograj Singh was pleased with the BCCI selectors’ decision to back Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Yograj Singh, the former Indian cricketer and the father of the legendary all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, was in support of the Board of Control for Cricket in India selectors’ call to continue with the senior duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
The 66-year-old reckons that the Indian team may not be able to cope with the loss of India’s star pair at the moment. The two have come under heavy criticism since their poor display in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. As a result of poor form, Rohit himself had decided to be benched for the final Test as well, which came as a massive surprise.
“I have always felt that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should not be dropped. If you drop them, then your team will fall apart. We may have lost in Australia, but we should not forget that we have beaten them in two series too,” Yograj commented, as quoted on ANI.
India’s 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 comprises most of the expected players, but Mohammed Siraj failed to make the cut. But with Bumrah’s return to fitness not confirmed and Mohammed Shami making his return to international cricket after over a year, the pacer could find himself in the mix should one of the front-line bowlers get injured.
Yograj admitted that he was worried ahead of the squad announcements, with concerns that certain stars could miss out. He remains pleased regarding such calls not being taken and appreciates the Indian selectors.
“I was worried that 5-6 people might be dropped—Shubman or Virat could be among them, so I think this is the best thing that has happened. I want to congratulate the board, the think tank, and the selectors. I appreciate these people,” Yograj concluded.
Another big surprise by the Indian selectors was the appointment of Shubman Gill as the vice captain of the side. This is likely due to Bumrah’s fitness being a massive concern ahead of the tournament.
