The former Pakistan fast-bowling legend, Shoaib Akhtar claimed that he could help revive their domestic structure to help improve the nation’s talents in three years if the Pakistan Cricket Board gave the responsibility to him.

The Pakistan cricket team have come under massive criticism following their horrendous display in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 where the host nation was booted out of the tournament after suffering back-to-back defeats in their two games in the group stages.

Former cricketers and pundits did not hold back on their criticisms and Akhtar was amongst those who were extremely disappointed with the Rizwan-led side’s display, particularly against their arch-rivals India.

Amidst the criticism, the fast-bowling legend also clarified that he had no personal agenda with anyone in the team.

We don’t have any personal agenda. If I did not get paid, I would not even talk about this. I do not even wish to talk about the Pakistan team. Honestly, I want nothing to do with cricket. I was requested and I came over. That is the truth,” Akhtar commented in a live segment with PTV Sports.

Akhtar also made a bold claim that he could revamp the domestic structure in Pakistan in three years should the PCB hand him over the responsibility to do so.

“Give me the domestic structure for three years, I’ll get it fixed. I’ll sacrifice my time with my kids and give it to Pakistan’s youth for three years,” he said.

Earlier the former PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi had also talked on social media about how the PCB have ruined their domestic cricketing structure after the election of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister of the country.

Sethi alleged that the PCB’s adoption of an Australian hybrid model, one that was introduced when Ehsan Mani was brought in as the chairman in 2019, led to the domestic structure’s downfall.

The former PCB chairman feels that Pakistan can certainly come back stronger but it would take a collective effort along with a professional approach to get the job done.

Pakistan will play Bangladesh in their final group-stage game and the host nation will look to end their tournament on a positive note.
