Having received his maiden Test call-up for India’s upcoming tour of England, young batting star Sai Sudharsan, reflecting on his county cricket experience, believes that adhering to the fundamentals will be crucial.

The young left-hander had a memorable 2025 Indian Premier League season, amassing 759 runs for the Gujarat Titans. The franchise’s campaign ended with a heartbreaking defeat to the Mumbai Indians in the first eliminator.

Sudharsan has played several county cricket matches in recent seasons and was expected to join the India A squad for their ongoing games in preparation for the Test series. However, this now appears unlikely, as the Test squad is scheduled to depart for the UK on 6 June.

“I think I have played seven games in county cricket, so it gave me a great experience to be honest. It improved my batting multiple folds in terms of technique and in terms of basics too. It told me basics is the most important thing in batting,” he said, as quoted by the Press Trust of India.

“So, I think it should help me, and I will focus more on what I learnt and I will try and be aware and create that awareness before going into the series,” Sudharsan added.

Following his impressive IPL campaign, the young star acknowledged the challenge of transitioning to red-ball cricket but remains confident in his ability to adapt.

“Definitely, after a long three months of white-ball tournament, certain things would have changed in your batting. I think focusing more on basics and bringing those back to red-ball cricket will take some time. We will have some good time before the series starts.

“In our mind, we were planning only to leave on the 4th from IPL, so we were not thinking about when to leave for India A or the Test team, but if that was the plan the Test team would have left on the 6th, but now we will have to have a conversation and see how it goes,” said the stylish opener.
