Australia suffered a 295-run defeat in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with India taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Australia did have a good start though having skittled India for 150 but then allowed the tourists to launch a remarkable comeback.

The defeat in the first Test triggered plenty of debate and Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey thinks that the loss in Perth caused a “big reaction.”

“I think it’s quite a big reaction, externally, for one Test loss. Internally, we don’t feel that,” Carey told the reporters on Tuesday.

Carey though admitted that Australia did not perform the way they should have but he is, at the same time, hopeful of a turnaround.

“We didn’t play the way we would have liked to have played, but we know over five Test matches. (If) we keep rocking up and playing our style of cricket, we will have success. We’re calm internally and we’re excited to get back out there and play a better style of cricket,” he said.

Ahead of the second Test that will be a day-night contest in Adelaide, Australia suffered a huge jolt as fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out due to injury concerns. Scott Boland is expected to replace Hazlewood in the pink-ball Test.

There is also some uncertainty looming large over allrounder Mitchell Marsh’s participation. Marsh may miss the next fixture due to fitness issues as well.

Meanwhile, India will be confident by the return of their regular captain Rohit Sharma who skipped the series opener for the birth of his second child.

Along with Rohit, Shubman Gill is also expected to make a return to the playing XI in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Gill did not feature in the first Test having suffered from a thumb injury.
