Indian batter Shubman Gill injured his finger while fielding in the slips during a match simulation in Perth on Saturday.
Team India faced another injury concern as young batter Shubman Gill reportedly sustained an injury during a training session in Perth. This development adds to Team India’s worries just a week before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, particularly as KL Rahul is also rumoured to be carrying an injury.
According to the Times of India, Gill injured his finger while fielding in the slips during a match simulation in Perth on Saturday. The report further stated that the medical team is currently assessing the batter’s condition and has yet to reach a conclusion.
“Yes, Shubman Gill is injured, but it is too early to rule him out of the opening Test. The medical team is keeping a close watch on him,” the report quoted a source as saying.
Gill sustained the injury a day after Rahul left the field after getting hit by a Praisdh Krishna delivery during the first day of the intra-squad game at WACA. The latter had opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal was had to leave the field after suffering the blow.
Even, Virat Kohli had to be taken for the scans but he returned to the game and batted for 30 minutes after the final interval on Friday.
“Virat Kohli is absolutely fine. He batted in the match simulation without any discomfort and also had a hit in the net after he got out. No concerns there,” the TOI report quoted a source as saying.
Team India has been training at Perth ahead of the Border-Gavaskar series opener at the Optus Stadium, starting November 22. The visitors were also supposed to play a practice match but the management decided to drop the plan and focused on simulations on the centre wicket.
