Virat Kohli set to equal Don Bradman’s record

Virat Kohli stands on the cusp of surpassing one of cricket’s most iconic records held by the legendary Don Bradman. The Australian legend holds the record for the most international centuries on foreign soil, having scored 11 hundreds in just 19 matches in England between 1930 and 1948. Kohli, with 10 centuries in Australia, could equal this historic milestone during the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, set to begin on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval.

Since his first tour of Australia in 2008, Kohli has amassed 2,710 runs in 43 matches across formats at an impressive average of 54.20. His highest score in Australia remains 169, achieved in a memorable Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in December 2014. While Bradman remains the leader, other batting legends such as Jack Hobbs, Sachin Tendulkar, Sir Vivian Richards, and Sunil Gavaskar also feature prominently on the list of players with the most centuries in a visiting country.

Hobbs and Tendulkar have each recorded nine centuries in Australia and Sri Lanka, respectively, followed by Richards, who scored eight centuries in 39 matches in England. Gavaskar rounds out the top five with seven centuries in the West Indies during his illustrious career.

Kohli appears to have rediscovered his red-ball form after a prolonged lean phase. Prior to the Australian series, he managed just 93 runs in a three-match home Test series against New Zealand. However, in the series opener in Perth, Kohli delivered a masterful unbeaten 100 off 143 balls in the second innings, guiding India to a dominant 295-run victory and an early lead in the five-match series.

With four matches remaining, Kohli has a golden opportunity to surpass another milestone—Sachin Tendulkar’s nine centuries in the iconic Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Currently tied with his idol, Kohli is poised to rewrite history by becoming the first batter ever to score 10 centuries in India-Australia Tests.

Adding to the excitement, the second Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be a day-night affair, setting the stage for Kohli to achieve yet another remarkable feat in his glittering career.
