India takes on New Zealand in their final group-stage game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Sunday. Both sides, having secured their spots in the semi-final stages, would look to end the group stage on a positive note with a win.
Both sides have been by far the best in the tournament, having put up dominant displays with both bat and ball in the ongoing tournament. The side led by Rohit Sharma will be keen on putting their demons against the Black Caps behind them and hope that they can go into the elimination stages without any concerns.
The Kiwis, led by Mitchell Santner, have taken full advantage of the recent tri-series win over Pakistan and South Africa to get accustomed to the conditions in Pakistan and win both their games against the hosts and Bangladesh, respectively. But this fixture could be the biggest test for both teams, proving to be a nail-biting contest between two top sides.
Let us take a look at the head-to-head record for India against New Zealand in ICC white-ball events:

In the 14 instances that India and New Zealand played against each other in ICC white-ball events like the ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue have come out victorious in only 5 games. The Kiwis have been considered their bogey for quite some time in ICC events.
India has managed to overcome those demons in recent games on home soil during the 2023 ODI World Cup, winning the two games they had in the league stage and the semi-final, respectively. The good news for India is that there is nothing at stake, and the final group-stage game is a dead rubber for both sides. Regardless of who wins or loses, all that changes is their opponent in the semi-final.
Keeping that in mind, Rohit Sharma will have to make a choice between playing his best 11 or possibly handing some of the players on the bench some game-time to ensure they remain ready in the event of any injuries. The same can be said for New Zealand as well.
The game is set to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, with the match set to begin at 2:30 PM (IST)
