After a horrific performance against the Aussies, the Women in Blue are back on home soil where they take on West Indies in a three-match T20I series in Navi Mumbai.
The captain of the Indian Women’s Team, Harmanpreet Kaur will be keen on getting her side back to winning ways after a woeful performance against Australia. The Women in Blue are set to begin their white ball series against the West Indies with the first game of the three-match WT20I series beginning on Sunday at Navi Mumbai.
The Indian team have a good record against the West Indies side having won their previous eight fixtures consecutively from November 2019. In addition, they have decided to continue without Shefali Verma, who has been one of their key players at the top of the order with her aggressive approach in the powerplay.
They have also opted against using Arundhati Reddy, who had a fairly impressive performance against Australia. She was also the joint-highest wicket-taker in the recent edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup. The reason for her absence was not explained in BCCI’s release.
Smriti Mandhana may be scoring the big runs, but her strike rate has come under question. Overall the batting unit has struggled to come together to fire as a unit which would be something that the team would be looking to address as a collective.
The West Indie will look to put in a strong showing against this wounded Indian side. The likes of Hayley Matthews, Qiana Joseph and Deandra Dottin would play key roles in the upcoming WT20I series. They will not be able to call up on Stafanie Taylor who has been injured.
All three games are set to be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and the WT20I series opener will begin on the same day as the WPL auction.
