The Indian women’s cricket team created history on Wednesday at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot as they smashed 435 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 50-over quota against the Irish women’s side in the third and final ODI of the series between the sides.

Indian openers Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana both notched up tons in the herculean effort from the women in blue.

The Indian women’s team crossed the 400-run mark for the very first time, going past their previous-best tally of 370 runs in the previous game against the same opponents.

The hosts won the toss and opted to have a bat first as the opening pair of Rawal and Mandhana stitched up a 233-run stand for the first wicket as both batters breached the triple-digit threshold.

Mandhana, who made 135 runs off just 80 deliveries fell to Orla Prendergast in the 27th over of the game for the first wicket as Ava Canning held on to the catching opportunity afforded by the Indian skipper.

Richa Ghosh added 59 runs, alongside the brilliant Rawal, before she was castled by Arlene Kelly.

Rawal, who made her maiden ODI century, added sheen to her accomplishment by going on to make a daddy ton with her 154-run knock off 129 deliveries before she fell prey to Freya Sergent in the 44th over of the innings.
