Team India star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will miss the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury and young seamer Harshit Rana will replace the Indian talisman.
Young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal’s name was also missing from the final 15 list of players to participate in the ODI spectacle but was featured in the non-travelling substitutes column alongside pacer Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube, who could be called up to the team if need be.
Skipper Rohit Sharma will lead the men in blue with opening partner Shubman Gill as his deputy. Maverick batter Rishab Pant and the seasoned KL Rahul provide options for the Indian side behind the wickets, while star batter Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer lend strength to the batting order.
Spin all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar will provide the variation with the ball, with seam all-rounder Hardik Pandya supporting headline pacer Mohammed Shami and southpaw Arshdeep Singh.
Varun Chakravarthy also made the list of players set to fly out for the tournament with Kuldeep Yadav adding a coat of sheen to the side’s spin arsenal.
Holders Pakistan were originally slated to host the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy, but ended up having to share the rights with UAE after the BCCI deemed it implausible to send the Indian contingent across the border citing political unrest in the region.
