Prasidh Krishna wants India to get ‘as many runs’ as possible before the bowlers start utilizing ‘difficult’ SCG pitch.
The Indian team is ‘really pumped up’ and confident about their plans and skills going into what could be the final day of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Sunday, according to pacer Prasidh Krishna. The quick said the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) pitch is not easy for batting due to variable bounce and the visitors will try to defend whatever target they set.
Led by Rishabh Pant’s quickfire 61 (33), Indians ended the day at 141/6 with all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar batting at 8 (39) and 6 (17) as the last recognized batters. India’s best phase, though, came earlier, with the ball in hand, when despite Jasprit Bumrah being out with injury, other pacers stepped up under stand-in skipper Virat Kohli’s tutelage and kept Australia down to 181 in the second innings, taking a four-run lead.
“The team is really pumped up,” Prasidh said in the post-Stumps press conference on Saturday. “You can see the way we were moving between overs, we were really confident about the plans we had in mind and the skillsets we have.”

Speaking about the uncharacteristic SCG pitch, with a lot of grass and uneven bounce, Prasidh said: “It is very difficult. In some areas, the ball is keeping low. Sometimes there is enough bounce for us to be in the game and look for the edges to try and beat them on either side of the bat.”
Asked about what target India would want to defend in the final innings, Prasidh didn’t commit to a number.
“As many runs as possible would be great for us. We don’t really know what the wicket is going to behave like. It’s going up and down. If you go aggressive, there’s a risk involved but you get the reward of runs. There’s no particular number in my mind but as many as we can score,” he said.
Prasidh took three wickets in the second innings and would be key to India’s chances in the last essay, especially if Bumrah — who suffered back spasms — remains unavailable to bowl on Sunday. Prasidh’s extra height, skiddy movement off the pitch and the ability to hit the hard lengths could be perfect for the pitch if he can bowl with control.
