The suspense over India’s squads for the upcoming Champions Trophy will be lifted on Saturday with the men’s selection committee set to meet and pick the members in Mumbai. India ODI captain Rohit Sharma and chief of selection panel Ajit Agarkar will address the media after the meeting during which they will unveil the squad.

Thew Agarkar-led panel will also pick the squad for a three-match ODI series that precedes the Champions Trophy next month.

India have been drawn in Group B alongside host Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh for the marquee tournament which will be making its return after last being held in 2017.

The tournament gets underway from February 19 in Karachi when Pakistan face New Zealand. India will start their campaign a day later in Dubai taking on Bangladesh.

While Rohit is expected to lead the squad, there are concerns over the availability of Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah suffered from back spasms during the fifth and final Test of India’s Australia tour earlier this month. The BCCI is yet to say anything regarding the status of the pace spearhead’s latest injury concern.

Recently, Bumrah denied a report of him being advised not to rush his competitive comeback and take bed rest. “I know fake news is easy to spread but this made me laugh. Sources unreliable,” Bumrah posted on X.

It will be interesting to see if BCCI selectors consider Karun Nair’s name for the marquee tournament or even for the England ODIs given his stunning form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Nair has struck 752 runs from seven innings of the domestic one-day competition while captaining Vidarbha. The 33-year-old has played two ODIs so far with the last being against Zimbabwe in June 2016.

Besides, there are speculations over the selection of Yashasvi Jaiswal as a backup opener. Jaiswal has represented India in Tests and T20Is but is yet to make his ODI debut.
