India Women’s three-match ODI series against Ireland Women is all set to start on Friday, January 10. The opening ODI of the series is scheduled to be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
This marks India’s first bilateral women’s ODI series against Ireland since 2006. The two sides had last faced each other at the T20 World Cup in 2023 and the Indian Women’s team had won that contest by a margin of five runs.
Senior opener Smriti Mandhana will lead the Indian team in the series against Ireland, while Deepti Sharma has been named her vice-captain. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Renuka Singh Thakur have been rested.
In the absence of Harmanpreet and Renuka, India have included batter Raghvi Bist and pacer Sayali Satghare in the squad. While Raghvi made her T20I debut against the West Indies last month, Sayali was in the squad when India beat New Zealand 2-1 in Ahmedabad in 2024.
Harmanpreet had endured a knee injury during the home series against the West Indies last month. The injury resulted in her absence from the last two T20Is before she returned to the ODI series.
Renuka, the senior fast-bowler who usually takes the new ball, was the player of the series in the ODI series against the West Indies, claiming 10 wickets in three matches.
Opening batter Shafali Verma and pace-bowling all-rounder Arundhati Reddy were not selected for the ODI series against Ireland. They are currently taking part in the Senior Women’s 50-over Challenger Trophy in Chennai.
