Defending champions India will be aiming to retain the title when they take on South Africa in the final of the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. The summit clash is set to be played on Sunday, February 2, at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. A reserve day has been kept available on 3 February for the high-voltage final match.
Both sides have been in sublime form in the competition as they reached the final stage remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. India got the better of England by nine wickets in the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup semifinal at the Bayuemas Oval on Friday to qualify for the final. Meanwhile, South Africa beat Australia by five wickets in the first semi-final.
Having won the toss, England decided to bat first in the semi-final against India. England made a solid start but the Indian bowlers made a comeback around in the second half. England scored 113 at the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. For India, Parunika Sisodia and Vaishnavi Sharma bagged three wickets each.
India did not face much trouble in the run chase and reached the target with 30 balls to spare. Wicketkeeper G Kamalini remained unbeaten on 56 to guide India to a resounding victory.
In the first semi-final, Australia batted first and posted a total of 105 at the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Ashleigh van Wyk claimed four wickets for South Africa. Jemma Botha produced a vital knock of 37, during the run chase, to secure a comfortable five-wicket win for South Africa.
