After a mixed 2024 where Team India finally managed to end the 11-year-long wait for an ICC title but also went on to lose a home series against New Zealand (whitewash) for the first time in history, the Indian men’s cricket team will enter 2025 with new hopes and aspirations.

In the first match of 2025, India will face Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground. The fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled to take place from January 3-7. India need nothing less than a win in Sydney to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and also keep its hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final alive.

After the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will host England in a white-ball series that features five T20Is and three ODIs. The T20I series will start on January 22 in Kolkata, and the next four matches are scheduled to take place in Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai on January 25, 28, 31, and February 2, respectively. The three ODIs between the two teams are set to be played on February 6, 9, and 12 in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad, respectively.

India will face New Zealand in the third Group A match on March 2.

Dubai will host India’s semifinal match (if qualified) on March 4, and the final is scheduled to take place at the same venue on March 9 if India advances to the final; otherwise, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will host the summit clash.

India will start the 2025-26 season with a five-match Test series against England. Headingley in Leeds will host the first Test from June 20, and the next four matches are scheduled to take place in Birmingham (July 2-6), Lord’s (July 10-14), Manchester (July 21-25), and Kennington Oval (July 31-August 4).

In the first home series of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, India will face the West Indies (2 matches) in September-October and then participate in the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup, which is set to be played in T20I format this year as part of preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026.

India has the hosting rights of Asia Cup 2025, and it will be interesting to see if Asia Cup matches take place in India for the first time ever or not.

After the Asia Cup, India will travel to Australia in November to play three ODIs and five T20Is. India’s last assignment in 2025 will be an all-format home series (2 Tests, 3 ODIs, 5 T20Is) against South Africa in November-December.

In total, India will play 10 Tests, 18 T20Is, and 12 ODIs in bilateral series in 2025 and a maximum of five ODIs and six T20Is in the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup, respectively.
