The suspense over India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad continues with BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla saying that a meeting to finalise the team will be held either on January 18 or 19. According to reports, the ICC has set January 12 as the deadline to submit a provisional squad list, but BCCI has sought extension.

BCCI on Saturday evening had announced a 15-man squad for India’s upcoming five-match T20I series against England.

The 2025 Champions Trophy starts from February 19 when hosts Pakistan face New Zealand in Karachi. England, New Zealand and Bangladesh have so far announced their squads for the eight-team competition.

India though start their campaign on February 20 taking on Bangladesh in Dubai.

The tournament is being held for the first time since 2017 and will be played in Hybrid Model. All of India’s matches will be played in Dubai while other league matches will be held in Pakistan.

As per reports, Rohit Sharma is expected to lead the squad but there’s a big question mark over the inclusion of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah who picked up an injury towards the end of India’s Australia tour earlier this month.

Bumrah has swelling on his back and is expected to check in at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. There have been reports claiming that Bumrah might miss the group stage of the Champions Trophy while another claims the pace spearhead will miss the entire competition itself.

Meanwhile, in a positive development, Mohammed Shami is set to make his international comeback after being named in India’s squad for the England T20Is. Shami hasn’t played international cricket since November 2023.

He recently represented Bengal in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy – a domestic one-day competition – to prove his match fitness.

The T20I squad will be led by Suryakumar Yadav with allrounder Axar Patel named as the vice-captain. The series starts from January 22 in Kolkata.
