Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma suffered an injury scare on Sunday, December 22. According to a report in the Times of India, the 37-year-old Indian batter was hit on his left knee while facing throwdown specialist Daya during India’s second practice session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ahead of the fourth Test against Australia, which is set to start on December 26 at the same venue.

As per the available information, the Indian skipper continued to bat for a bit after getting hit but then decided to receive attention from the team physio.

“The Indian captain removed his gear, settled into a chair, and the physio got the ice pack out. There was pain visible on the right-hander’s face when the pack was put on, and the physio later placed the left leg on a chair to get Rohit into a comfortable position,” the report read.

“The blow didn’t look that serious, and the physio is taking precautions to ensure swelling, if any, subsides. There is still some time left for the Boxing Day Test to begin, and Rohit would hope the pain goes away,” it added.

Rohit’s performance in BGT 2024-25

Rohit missed the first Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and Australia due to the birth of his second child. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian team and picked up a total of 8 wickets (5 + 3) to seal a famous win by 295 runs at the Optus Stadium in Perth last month.

Rohit made his comeback during the second Test but failed to do much with the bat in both innings, and as a result, India went on to lose the match played at Adelaide Oval by 10 wickets inside three days. In the pink-ball Test, Rohit came out to bat at No. 6 and never looked comfortable.

In the third Test, which was played from December 14-18 at The Gabba in Brisbane, Rohit once again batted at No. 6 but didn’t do much. However, due to rain, the match got washed out, and the series is level at 1-1.
