Delhi Capitals continue their impressive run in the ongoing IPL season having completed a double over Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. In their second meeting of the IPL 2025, DC defeated LSG by eight wickets. And a certain KL Rahul played a starring role in securing the comfortable win as he scored an unbeaten half-century against his former franchise.

Before DC splurged Rs 14 crore to secure Rahul‘s signature for the ongoing season, the wicketkeeper-batter was released by LSG after three seasons. The top-order batter captained the franchise since their debut in 2022 and during his reign, the team secured two top-two finishes.

However, LSG struggled last season and with seven wins and as many defeats, finished seventh on the points table. Thus, they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in three years.

The fallout of the elimination was LSG parting ways with Rahul. However, the seeds of discord were sown during the season itself when owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having an animated discussion in public with his former captain after an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The visuals of the two having a conversation went viral on social media leading to speculations of a broken relationship.

LSG released Rahul and then splurged a whopping Rs 27 crore to sign Rishabh Pant at the two-day IPL mega auction held in Jeddah last year. Pant was subsequently named as the new captain.

Rahul missed the first meeting between DC and LSG in Vizag this year due to personal reasons. However, he was available for their second match of the IPL 2025 and he made it a memorable affair with a classy half-century – an unbeaten 57 off 42.

Users on social media are terming this as Rahul’s ‘revenge’ on his former team.

This was DC’s sixth win of the season and with that, they have taken their points tally to 12. The Axar Patel-led team is currently 2nd on the points table and are only separated by toppers Gujarat Titans on net run-rate.
