There were 395 players who were unsold at the IPL mega auction despite Rs 639.15 crore being spent.

A total of 182 players were sold for a combined Rs 639.15 crore but 395 remained unsold at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday.

Here are the top players who have gone unsold at IPL 2025 Auctions –

Jonny Bairstow – The England wicketkeeper-batter made his debut in IPL after being bought for Rs. 1.5 crore by the SRH for the 2019 season. A proven performer at the highest level for his country in the short formats of the game, Bairstow had a brilliant debut IPL season scoring 445 runs that included a century while opening the batting with David Warner. He moved to Punjab Kings in 2022 but could not have the same impact. Bairstow scored a total of 1589 runs from 50 matches at an average of 34.54 and a strike-rate of 144.45.

Yash Dhull – Yash Dhull shot to fame by leading India to the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup as well as the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was snapped up by Delhi Capitals even before making his senior debut at the 2022 IPL auction. Getting to bat in his second season, he managed only 15 runs from four games and a strike-rate of just 69.57.

Prithvi Shaw – Prithvi Shaw was a household name well before his teen years. His performances in school cricket in Mumbai suggested India had another legend on their hand. He was the captain of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning team in 2018. Delhi Daredevils bought him for Rs 1.2 crores in the 2018 IPL auction. A decent couple of seasons later, his off-field antics started hampering his on-field performance. He has 1892 runs from 79 matches in the IPL with an average of 23.95 and a strike-rate of 147.47.

Mustafizur Rahman – Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman made his IPL debut in 2016. He was impressive for SRH that year as Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals acquired Mustafizur’s services after bringing him on the board. After two poor seasons with Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings brought him in. He was a changed bowler at the Anduden. He has 61 wickets to his name from 57 matches in the IPL with an economy of 8.14.

Alzarri Joseph – The West Indian pacer started his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2019, coming on as a replacement player and looked good. In his first match, he finished with figures of 6/12 against Sunrisers Hyderabad to record the best bowling effort on debut. A move to Gujarat Titans yielded more wickets for him until a move to Royal Challengers Bengaluru derailed him. He has a total of 21 wickets from 22 games with injuries not doing any favours

David Warner – Not many have had a storied career in the IPL as an overseas players as David Warner. He captained SRH to their maiden tournament win in 2016 and was the second-highest run-scorer for them in their title-winning effort with a monumental 848 runs at a strike rate of 151.42. As captain again in the 2020 IPL edition, he took Sunrisers Hyderabad to No.3 on the points table but was not retained before the 2022 edition, as he found a new home in Delhi Capitals. He finished the season as DC’s top-scorer and in 2023 stepped up to captain the Capitals, finishing as their highest run scorer. Warner has a record-breaking 6565 runs from 184 matches at an average of 40.52 and a strike-rate of 139.77.

Shardul Thakur – Shardul Thakur made his debut for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL in 2014 and moved to Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017.The very next year, he was bought Chennai Super Kings and helped CSK reach the final in 2019. He was CSK’s highest wicket-taker in 2021 with 21 wickets and was brought in by Delhi Capitals for the 2022 edition. He was traded to KKR in 2023. He was back in CSK for 2024 but could not recreate the magic again. He has 94 wickets from 95 games in the IPL and an economy of 9.23.

Dewald Brevis – Known as ‘Baby AB’, Dewald Brevis turned heads at the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, scoring two centuries and three fifties and was named the Player of the Tournament. Mumbai Indians promptly picked him up in the 2022 edition and he was even retained the next year. In his two seasons so far, he ended up playing just 10 matches, scoring 230 runs at a strike-rate of 133.72 and an average of 23.

Sikandar Raza – The Pakistan-born Zimbabwean was bought by the Punjab Kings for the 2023 IPL. He became the first Zimbabwean player to score a half-century in the IPL but was not used much after that. A solid all-rounder in the international arena, Sikandar has 182 runs and just three wickets from nine matches across two seasons in the IPL.
