A total of INR 467.95 crore was spent collectively when the 10 franchises assembled on the first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 84 players went under the hammer, out of which 72 bagged a contract while 12 failed to attract any buyers.
India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant shattered all records with an INR 27 crore deal from Lucknow Super Giants to become the most expensive player in IPL auction history. He surpassed his India and ex-Delhi Capitals teammate Shreyas Iyer, who was roped in by Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore. All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer is third on the all-time richest IPL buys list with a deal worth INR 23.77 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders.
Meanwhile, the bowlers also had a field day in the mega auction. Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal were bought by Punjab Kings for INR 18 crore each. T Natarajan was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders at INR 10.75 crore, Khaleel Ahmed was bought by Chennai Super Kings at INR 4.8 crore, Siraj bagged INR 12.25 crore from Gujarat Titans, while Mohammed Shami moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad at INR 10 crore.
