Rishabh Pant will be part of the IPL 2025 mega auctions after he was released by Delhi Capitals.
Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who was associated with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL since his debut in 2016, has not retained by the franchise and he thus enters the mega auctions. Pant, who scored 3,284 runs in 111 IPL matches for the DC, will not be short of suitors and can trigger a bidding war between multiple franchises for his services.
Here’s a look at three IPL teams that can go all out for Rishabh Pant in IPL 2025 mega auctions:
Royal Challengers Bengaluru: After releasing Faf du Plessis and the retirement of Dinesh Karthik, RCB will look for a new captain, and wicketkeeper-batter for IPL 2025. And the 27-year-old Pant can fill both the vacant positions.
Pant has led DC in three IPL seasons and is one of the best batters of the current era which is why RCB can break the bank to get him on board. With age by his side, Pant can serve the Bengaluru-based franchise for a long period and be the face of the team in the post-Virat Kohli era.
Punjab Kings: PBKS will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with a purse of Rs 110.50 crore – the highest among the 10 teams. Their new head coach Ricky Ponting has worked with Pant during his time with DC and shares a good bond with the Indian stumper, which is why there is a high chance that they will look to sign him. Like RCB, PBKS are also in search of a new captain after Shikhar Dhawan’s retirement.
Chennai Super Kings: Five-time IPL champions CSK reportedly are have been long-term admirers of Rishabh Pant and the star is often talked about as an ideal successor to MS Dhoni at the franchise. Like Dhoni, Pant is also a middle-order explosive wicketkeeper-batter and can win matches single-handedly for any team from any given situation. However, it will be interesting to see if Pant joins CSK, then the Chennai-based franchise will appoint him as the new captain or continue with Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The DC will have an option to sign Pant via RTM option but at the moment it looks highly unlikely as there are reports of differences between the two parties.
