Inconsistency, injuries and unavailability: factors that plagued DC last season in the IPL. While there were flashes of brilliance from the batters, lack of consistency and firing as a complete unit came to bite them back. And now, they aim to go all out, as the franchise sets off on a whole rebuild.

DC retained only four players – Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and the uncapped Indian batter Abhishek Porel — and opted to let go of skipper Rishabh Pant for whom a bidding war can be expected in the upcoming IPL Mega Auction.
With a new coach and a new director of cricket in place in Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao, respectively with GMR set to control the operations as part of the co-ownership deal with JSW, the Capitals are signalling a major rebuild in the upcoming season.

DC’s Costliest Player in Retention List: Axar Patel
Axar Patel has consistently proved his worth as a wily all-rounder, and will also now be looked at as a potential option to be the next skipper, in the case that Pant departs after the mega auction.
In the 2024 IPL season, Axar Patel showcased impressive all-round stats, claiming 11 wickets in 14 games and scoring 235 runs in 12 innings. He became the second player to score over 50 in his captaincy debut for DC, following Shreyas Iyer.
