Royal Challengers Bengaluru is one of the five IPL teams that has participated in all 17 editions of the Indian Premier League played so far. But unlike teams like the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders, RCB is still waiting for its maiden IPL title.

The Bengaluru-based franchise, which managed to qualify for playoffs in IPL 2024 but failed to win the title, will hope to come up with a big show in IPL 2025 and end the long wait for an IPL trophy.

Despite having many star players in its ranks in the 2024 season of the cash-rich league, RCB has only opted to retain three players, of whom one is an uncapped Indian player.

“As we strive to strengthen our squad, we recognize the critical importance of retaining players who not only contribute to our immediate success but also play a vital role in nurturing the future of Indian cricket”, said Prathmesh Mishra, Chairman of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

“We understand the curiosity surrounding the RCB captaincy and want to assure our fans that we are exploring all options. Our retention strategy not only lays a solid foundation for our upcoming lineup but also offers us the flexibility to make strategic decisions during the auctions. We are committed to building a team that reflects our ambitions and excites our fans,” he added.

RCB splashed out Rs 37 crore to retain services of three players from the IPL 2024 squad.

RCB’s Costliest Player in Retention List

RCB has splashed out Rs 21 crore to retain Virat Kohli ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions. The 35-year-old Indian cricketer has been associated with RCB since the start of the cash-rich league. He is the RCB’s most capped player in the IPL and also holds the record for scoring most runs, sixes, centuries, and fifties for the franchise.

In the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, Kohli played all 15 matches and, with the help of one century and five fifties, scored 743 runs to top the run scorers list and win the Orange Cap.

RCB’s Remaining Purse For IPL Mega Auction

After retaining only two players from the IPL 2024 squad for Rs 37 crore, RCB will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with a remaining purse of Rs 83 crore and three RTMs.

Where RCB Finished In IPL 2024

Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a super comeback in IPL 2024 after losing six out of the first seven matches in the league stage and managed to finish in the top-four to qualify for the playoffs. However, in the eliminator match, it went down by four wickets against the Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad to finish fourth.
