The Indian Premier League will get underway from March 23 this year.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on Sunday said that the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will get underway from March 23. Shukla made the announcement after the BCCI Special General Meeting in Mumbai on Sunday.
During the meet, Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were elected as the new BCCI secretary and treasurer respectively. They were both elected unopposed after being the only ones to file nomination for the posts vacated by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar.
A two-day mega auction was held in the lead up to what will be the 18th season of the T20 tournament. Rishabh Pant became the costliest ever player in the history of the IPL auctions when Lucknow Super Giants placed a successful bid to sign him for an astronomical sum of Rs 27 crore.
Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title last year, went to Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore and became the second costliest player in the league’s history.
Venkatesh Iyer was bought back by KKR for Rs 23.75 crore and thus made him the most expensive allrounder in IPL history.
Shukla also said that a meeting regarding the Indian squad’s selection for the next month’s Champions Trophy will be held on 18th or 19th of January.
As per reports the deadline to send provisional squads to the ICC is January 12. So far, only three teams including England, New Zealand and Bangladesh have announced their squads for the tournament.
