Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his IPL debut last week for Rajasthan Royals and announced his arrival in brazen fashion, launching the very first ball of his career for a stunning six off the bowling of Lucknow Super Giants’ Shardul Thakur. The 14-year-old thus became the youngest ever player in the IPL history and 34 off 20 with the help of two fours and three sixes playing as an opener.
On Thursday, RR though didn’t include the teenager in their starting XI for their crucial match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
However, Suryavanshi features amongst the impact subs and with RR opting to bowl first, it’s likely that the young batting sensation will be seen in action later when the inaugural champions start their chase.
RR have made one change to their playing XI from the last game, dropping spinner Maheesh Theekshana for left-arm facer Fazalhaq Farooqi. On the other hand, RCB are unchanged.
This is the second time RCB and RR are squaring off in the ongoing season. In their previous meeting, The Rajat Patidar-led RCB completed a comfortable nine-wicket win, chasing down the target of 174 in 17.3 overs.
RR are without their regular captain Sanju Samson for this contest as he recovers from a side strain. Riyan Parag has been named as the stand-in skipper.
“Sanju bhai is recovering and hopefully he will be back soon,” Parag said during the toss.
