Indian captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that his hamstring injury was ‘okay at the moment’ after India’s big six-wicket win over Pakistan in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Pakistan scored 241/10 in the first innings, which India chased in less than 43 overs, led by Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100 (111).
Rohit was seen struggling with his hamstring in the first innings. After Hardik Pandya got rid of Babar Azam, making him edge one to wicketkeeper KL Rahul in the ninth over, the skipper celebrated extensively and soon after, was spotted clutching his hamstring. He then also spent some time out of the ground, while vice-captain Shubman Gill took over the reins. Rohit batted in the second innings, though, and scored 20 (15).
Asked about the incident in the post-match presentation, he said: “It is okay at the moment.”
India will now get a week’s rest before they play New Zealand on next Sunday in the final group-stage game of the tournament.
It was a complete performance from India. In the bowling attack, Kuldeep Yadav led with three wickets and every other bowler picked at least one each except Mohammed Shami.
In the second innings, the skipper laid the foundation again with a quick 15-ball 20 with three fours and a six. Shubman Gill took over with seven boundaries from the other end and reached 46 (52) after he got out.
Then, Kohli with his century, Shreyas Iyer with 56 (67) alongside small contributions from Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel finished things off.
“The way we started with the ball was superb,” Rohit said at the start of the presentation. “We knew it gets slightly better to bat under lights. We backed our experience to get the runs. Credit goes to guys like, Axar, Kuldeep and Jadeja. They stitch a very good partnership – Rizwan and Shakeel. It was important not to let the game drift away. Not to forget the way Hardik, Shami and Harshit bowled as well. We’ve played a lot together, this format. It can be quite tricky at times. Axar and Kuldeep stepped up today. He (Kohli) loves representing the country. He wants to be out there. We’ve seen it with him over the years. People in the dressing room are not surprised.”
