Here’s a look at Orange Army’s strongest playing XI for the upcoming 2025 edition of the IPL.
After a super show in IPL 2024 where they finished as runners up, Sunrisers Hyderabad retained five players for Rs 75 crore and entered the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah with a purse of Rs 45 crore. In the two-day event, the Orange Army signed many quality Indian players to strengthen the squad and boost its chances of winning the second IPL title.
Here’s a look at SRH’s strongest playing XI for IPL 2025:
Travis Head: Australian top-order batter Travis Head was retained for Rs 14 crore by SRH ahead of the mega auction after he impressed with his performance with the bat in the 2024 edition of the cash-rich league. In his first season with the Orange Army, the right-handed batter scored 567 runs at a strike rate of 191.55 in 15 matches.
Abhishek Sharma: Abhishek Sharma scored 484 runs at a strike rate of 204.21 in 16 matches of IPL 2024 for SRH and played a big role in the team’s run to the final. He was retained for Rs 14 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and will open the innings once again for the franchise in the next season of the cash-rich league.
Ishan Kishan: Sunrisers Hyderabad signed Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan for Rs 11.25 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 26-year-old right-handed batter has played for two teams (Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians) in the IPL and has 2644 runs to his name in 105 matches played so far.
Nitish Kumar Reddy: SRH retained 21-year-old Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy for Rs 6 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction after he impressed with his all-round show in the 2024 edition of the cash-rich league. He scored 303 runs and picked up three wickets in 13 matches of IPL 2024.
Heinrich Klaasen (WK): Heinrich Klaasen became SRH’s most expensive player in IPL history after he was retained for Rs 23 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He joined SRH in the 2023 auction and has scored 448 and 479 runs in the last two seasons.
Kamindu Mendis: Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis will make his IPL debut in 2025. The 26-year-old cricketer, who has 1903 runs and 17 wickets to his name in 91 T20 matches played so far, was signed for Rs 75 lakh by the Hyderabad-based franchise.
Abhinav Manohar: SRH signed Karnataka batter Abhinav Manohar for Rs 3.20 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 30-year-old right-handed batter has played 19 IPL matches for GT in the IPL and has 231 runs to his name.
Pat Cummins (C): In his first season with SRH (in 2024), Pat Cummins led the Orange Army to the IPL final, and he was retained for Rs 18 crore by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Cummins is all set to lead the 2016 champions in the 2025 edition of the cash-rich league and will hope to end the team’s nine-year long wait for an IPL title.
Harshal Patel: SRH signed Harshal Patel for Rs 8 crore on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 34-year-old pacer played for PBKS in IPL 2024 and won Purple Cap. Harshal, who is one of the three bowlers to win multiple Purple Caps in IPL, overall has 135 wickets to his name in 106 IPL matches.
Mohammed Shami: After releasing Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, and T Natarajan, SRH signed star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for Rs 10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Shami won the Purple Cap in IPL 2023 and overall has 127 wickets to his name in 110 IPL matches.
Rahul Chahar: SRH missed the presence of a quality spinner in the 2024 season, and that’s why they signed former MI and PBKS spinner Rahul Chahar, who has 75 wickets to his name in IPL, for Rs 3.20 crore.
Others: Adam Zampa (Rs 2.40 crore), Simarjeet Singh (Rs 1.50 crore), Eshan Malinga (Rs 1.20 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (Rs 1 crore), Brydon Carse (Rs 1 crore), Zeeshan Ansari (Rs 40 lakh), Atharva Taide (Rs 30 lakh), Aniket Verma (Rs 30 lakh), Sachin Baby (Rs 30 lakh).
