Former Indian cricketer, Aakash Chopra has expressed his scepticism over the recent social media posts by Harshit Rana and Nitish Rana, who came out in defence of the former Kolkata Knight Riders mentor, Gautam Gambhir after receiving scathing criticism from the former KKR player Manoj Tiwary.
Tiwary in an earlier interview with News18 Bangla had called Gambhir a hypocrite and accused the former Indian opener of giving opportunities to players that were in his lobby. He also suggested that the coaches, Morne Morkel and Abhishek Nayar had vested interests with the Head Coach.
In Gambhir’s defence, KKR players Nitish and Harshit had taken to social media to respond to the comments.
“Criticism should be based on facts, not personal insecurities. Gauti bhaiyya is one of the most selfless players I’ve ever met. He shoulders responsibility in times of distress like no other. Performance doesn’t need any PR. The trophies speak for themselves,” Nitish wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Criticising someone due to personal insecurities is not good. Gauti bhaiya is someone who thinks more for others than himself. He always backs players when they are down and puts them in the limelight when things go our way. He has shown this on multiple occasions. He has a lot of knowledge on how to turn games in your favour,” wrote Harshit.
Reflecting on both their responses, Chopra had a sense of scepticism and saw a lot of similarities in both their comments and even alleged that both the comments could have been written by AI or by the same person.
“Sometimes you feel that it might be a ChatGPT product. There are a lot of similarities in both of their scripts or maybe someone even wrote it for them to post. It felt that both scripts were written by the same man or the same machine. It could be ChatGPT for all we know,” said Chopra on YouTube.
Gambhir’s time as India’s Head Coach is coming under pressure with the side failing to meet expectations in ODIs and Tests. However, Gambhir’s coaching in the T20I format has been a massive hit with the side remaining undefeated in the 6 T20Is played so far.
But India’s recent defeat against New Zealand on home soil coupled with the series defeat against Australia in their recent tour has resulted in Gambhir’s abilities being questioned as the Head Coach. It remains to be seen if Gambhir will be able to turn their fortunes around and get the Indian team firing on all cylinders.
